About me
Can you describe your upbringing and how it influenced your interest in physical and spiritual practices?
Growing up in a Buddhist center where my mom was a yoga teacher really set the foundation for my life. It immersed me in the practices of meditation and yoga from a very young age, influencing my understanding of movement and self-awareness profoundly.
What were some of the first physical activities you engaged in, and how did they impact your journey?
I started with karate, and it became a significant part of my life early on. I even achieved being a two-time world champion. However, I had to stop due to injuries and ineffective movement patterns that emerged from my training.
How did you discover yoga and Chi Gong, and what has been their impact on your life?
After karate, I found yoga, which was a softer yet equally profound practice. But due to my wrist injuries, even yoga became difficult at times. That’s when I discovered Chi Gong, which played a crucial role in healing the more subtle aspects of my body and deepened my understanding of my physical structure.
You have a diverse background in meditation and movement. Have you had any experiences abroad that influenced your practices?
Yes, I spent six months in India studying yoga and meditation. There, meeting yogis who had been meditating for years in caves was transformative. It really expanded my understanding of meditation and dedication, and it influenced my practice deeply.
During your silent meditation retreat, what key insights did you gain about yourself?
The retreat taught me to let go of unnecessary tensions, many of which felt like they were integral parts of my identity. Releasing these tensions allowed me to express myself more freely and truly.
How did your interest in acting and movement take you to acting school, and what significant lessons did you learn there?
Acting school was pivotal. It taught me that true expression is essential for good movement patterns. Observing children play and use their whole bodies in an integrated way helped me understand movement as a complete system.
What inspired you to get involved in circus arts, and how has this experience influenced your approach to movement?
My varied experiences with movement led me to circus school in Copenhagen. Training there, participating in performances, and learning from others expanded my horizons and deepened my practice of movement in exciting new ways.
With your extensive exploration of martial arts and competition, what drives your interest in such varied disciplines?
I’ve always been driven by a passion for movement and an insatiable curiosity to understand different forms and their interconnections. Whether it was Muay Thai in Thailand or Capoeira, each style offered unique insights and added layers to my understanding of physical expression.
As a personal trainer, how do you incorporate your broad experiences into your teaching methods?
I use everything I've learned to teach movement, yoga, and breathwork. My goal is to help others explore their own capacities and find joy in movement, just as I have throughout my journey.
